James and Kittie Marshall

James Andrew Marshall

Our 2nd-great-grandfather James Andrew Marshall was born 22 August 1863 in Tennessee. He was the fourth child of James M. and Nancy (Simas) Marshall. As of 1870, James and his family had moved westward and were living in Jackson, Tennessee, according to census data, where James M. worked as a farmer. The family soon moved back north and east towards Macon County where, according to Goodspeed’s History of Macon County 1882, James M. was a Macon County circuit court clerk from 1874-1882.

Kittie Emma Silvey

Our 2nd-great-grandmother Kittie Emma Silvey was born 12 December 1862 in Kentucky to parents Robert Silvey, a stone mason born in Tennessee ,and Lucinda Gist, born in Kentucky. Kittie was the second eldest of at least eight siblings.  

Married and family life

James and Kittie were married in Clay, Tennessee on 2 July 1881. Together they had the following children:

As of 1902, the family lived in Tennessee, where James worked his own farm in Macon in 1910. As of 1920, the family was living in Gamaliel, Monroe County, Kentucky where James was listed as a truck farmer. In 1930, all the kids were out of the house, and James and Kittie were living together in Monroe. James continued to farm for the rest of his life. Kittie died in Monroe on 28 August 1949 at the age of 86 and James died in Monroe on 26 December 1951.
